Editing scores

Mistakes happen. You read a 13 as a 3, two teams swapped answer sheets, or you finalized a round too early. TotalUp lets you edit at every stage of a session.

While a session is Live

Just type over the score. Inputs save on blur (when you tab out of the cell). The standings above the grid reorder as soon as the save completes. No extra confirmation, no undo history, Live is fluid by design because you need to move fast on trivia night.

After you've finalized

You can still open a finalized session and change any score, but there are consequences worth understanding.

Single-session impact. Changing a finalized score updates:

  • The session's per-round grid.
  • That team's session total.
  • The session's own rank column.

Season-standings impact. It also re-runs the season leaderboard calculation, which touches every team in the league. In practice this means:

  • The season total for the team you edited changes, and every team after them may shift rank.
  • If the league uses Best N of M scoring, a change to one session might push a team's result in or out of their top N, so teams you didn't touch can also re-rank.

None of this is destructive - the math is idempotent, and the new standings are always a function of the current score data. But it's the reason we gate finalization behind a confirmation dialog: if you finalize honestly the first time, you rarely need to come back.

When should you not edit?

Once the public standings have circulated among players (screenshots, shared URLs), an edit is a social event more than a technical one. Announce it. A live correction with one team present is fine; a silent edit a week later, less so.

There's no formal audit trail on edits in the MVP. If you need one, email us and we'll prioritize it.
