Getting started

TotalUp is a free scoring tool for trivia hosts. Whether you run a weekly pub quiz or a one-night tournament, TotalUp lets you track team scores in real time and share live standings with your players, no spreadsheets, no whiteboards, no mental math at closing time.

The mental model

Three concepts are worth learning up front. Everything in TotalUp fits into one of these:

  • League. A league is the season-long container. It holds your scoring rules and, over time, all of the sessions you run under it. "Tuesday Trivia at The Blind Horse" is a league.
  • Session. A session is a single trivia night, one date, one venue, one set of rounds. A league typically has many sessions over a season.
  • Team. Teams exist inside a league. The same team keeps its identity across every session in that league, so the season-long leaderboard adds up correctly.

If you've ever used a league → season → match structure in a sports app, this will feel familiar: a league collects sessions, a session collects team scores.

Signing up

Create a host account at Register. You'll need a valid email address, TotalUp sends a verification link before you can create your first league, so use a mailbox you actually read. If the link doesn't arrive within a minute, check spam; if it's still missing, you can trigger a resend from the "Thank you for your registration!" screen.

Once verified, you land on your dashboard, where all of your leagues live. The only remaining step to run your first trivia night is creating your first league.

Finding your way around

The top nav follows you on every page:

  • Dashboard - all your active leagues. Archived leagues are hidden by default; click "Show N archived leagues" to reveal them, and unarchive any with one click.
  • Leagues - a dropdown that jumps straight into any active league without going back to the dashboard.
  • Help - these docs.
  • Your name (top-right) - account menu with Profile settings and Sign out. Set a display name, bio, website, and avatar there; they'll appear on your public league pages. See account & privacy for details.
